Pros & Cons
Pros
The book is informative, easy to read, and sized so it can be carried into the field as well as read at home. This book is a little bigger than a paperback size. Definitely on the forefront of the genre.
The man is very knowledgeable in the field of wilderness survival and has a folksy, down to earth method of teaching. He gets his points across in a clear and concise manner.
Cons
Army's field survival guide surpasses this book by leaps and bounds. The book lists out strategies to employ or things one could build in a survival situation, yet does not elaborate on how to accomplish them beyond mentioning and defining them.
Poor illustration. Some knots are described without essential pictures. Some parts that i wanted to learn the descriptions are there, but no picture to go by. Some of the information is useful, but leaves a lot to the imagination.
The section on black smithing is a little strange for a bushcraft book. Blacksmithing is not bushcraft although it is a related field. Most of this stuff is free from early scoutmaster and boyslife magazines.
