My main complaint is that as a fairly noncomputer savvy person i have not been able to figure out how to ask the camera to have a static ip address so i have to go into the software and select it periodically

It uses passive infrared ir to detect motion rather than changes in the video signal that most cameras use this camera has that video based motion detection as well
