The top seems to be slightly coated with some sort of smooth adhesive its a bit darker compared to the lower part of the handle so its not entirely rough

The only flaw in these and this is what caused me to deduct a star from the rating was one poles strap was stuck

The other was just impossible to move but i was able to fix it myself by popping out the little plastic piece that holds the strap in place and adjusting it then replacing that piece
