I also experienced the same thing until i pushed indown while screwing the cap on instead of just sitting it on the fill neck and screwing it in

So far my gas level is staying where i notice it between drives so apparently this serves as just enough deterrent to have the gas thieves go somewhere else for easier siphoning

I got quoted the same exact gas cap at three local auto part stores and they were all the same
