Pros & Cons
Pros
Lots of * to get one in trouble. Easy to find and change settings using the menu *. Very happy with turnaround time of the customer support. In today's world tech support is very important.
The gm30 has a keypad which is very helpful with setting up the radio. Best affordable gmrs receivers on the market. Appears that there is a software update out there that will allow you to program diy gmrs repeater channels from 30-54.
Charging is done using the included usb type c charger (included) battery clip attaches to battery - the only real down-side. In addition these can be charged using a standard usb-c connector.
Like all radios it has quirky menu items to get used to. Was able to program my local repeaters in it. Battery life takes a hit when using the fm radio feature.
A step up from the blister pack frs radios from walmart or radio shack. Comes with the adapter for handheld radio.
Cons
Radioddity gm30 is more hefty and harder to use than the very simple (and featureless) motorola. It was plugged into the car usb charger at the time and blew the fuse for the charger. Refund for the radios with any issues.
Their customer service is basically useless. It's worse than dell in the 2000's. They try to mimic being us based by naming their workers western names. But it's very low on power.
Buyer beware. Do not order this junk. Just get something else.
Highlights
Quality
It is pretty sturdy and feels like it can take some abuse.
Overall very happy with the quality and ease of use.
These were a good starter radio and with a different antenna i was hitting repeaters 20 miles away with pretty crap line of sight.
2nd test was with the supplied rubber antenna and hit 2 of the 3 repeaters.
Price
Was skeptical to buy because it inexpensive, but it works great on 4x4 trails in a group for communication.
This is a suprizingly good starter radio for the price.
He also saw the "bang for the buck" this unit delivers.
If you don't, you have to factor in an additional $15 to $20 to the real cost of the radio.
Shipping
It was easy quick and with good communication.
The radio was shipped and received within a few days.
I sent her my amazon order at the end of november.
They promptly sent me a return label and then sent me a replacement radio.
Competitiveness
More user friendly and nicer than the baofeng alternative.
Overall, this radio is a good cheap alternative to other gmrs offerings from midland, wouxun, and other companies.
Checked out the frequency scan that worked, fm radio was comparable to a monaural fm pocket radio.
