Installed between the hand shower hose and its wall connection point this valve solved my problem and it looks as if it is an original component of the american standard fixture

You have to shut off the shower with this valve first then you can turn off the inwall shower valve

Plumbers all said they couldnt get replacements for the old valve in our onehandle mixertype mid1930s crane shower so they would have to break through the wall and tear out the old piping to install a new system
