Turns out the screws in the terminal strip were touching the cable sheath and the actual terminal resulting in a bad connection

The light it gives out is very bright and has a temperature of 6000k meaning it is very white a lamp indoors has a temperature of 2700k which is a lot redder

It is not possible to rewire the unit like an ordinary floodlight so that you can run the cable straight tom the lamp therefore it is necessary to have a connection to the prewired lead
