Pros
Card is close to onboard motherboard sata speeds. Got this to raid 0 6 cheap ssd's with mdadm as a temporary thing. Truenas turns a 10-year-old dell optiplex into a nas box.
No documentation provided with the package, but the on-line schematic is accurate. Works fine with windows 11 and native drivers. Worked great as a passthrough for xpenology. Very widely supported chipset in linux.

Only hunch is maybe that heatsink isn't doing its job and it gets warm and starts to fail over 5-10 minutes. The drive that is connected internally has to be disabled before booting or the system hangs. Doesnt work. All report no media found when conn... Read More

This is the cheapest, newest and most compatible.
For the money i decided to add a 6 port card as opposed to a 4 port card giving me a little room for expansion.
Got this to raid 0 6 cheap ssd's with mdadm as a temporary thing.

I recommend this controller to anyone who is running truenas system to expand or replace their sata ports.
Buyer beware: the vast majority of cards you see here at all different prices use the older, less compatible, asmedia asm106x chipset.
There are also cards with chipsets from jm micron and marvell.

One of my proxmox servers had two sata 3 ports and two sata 2 ports

I could see the higher latency on access to those ssds on the sata 2 port and since i used a ceph storage system these higher latencies tended to slow down the system as a whole

Now the latencies are all similar and no ssd is bottlenecking another
