Puprple heart gets gummy, its a resinous wood. Measure and set your drill press to half the thickness of the wood you use. Take it slow and dont force your blades or bits.

If you do this and then turn it over when it goes through it will pick up the ring

Turn off the press when it stops take off the ring and slowly push the center out

Knowing what i know about purple heart and what it does to my carving tools and saw blades unless its a super thin peice i wouldnt recommend
