The lower part of the polerod does attach to the tile wall so it needs to be drilled but all the diverter plumbing to the hand held shower head is self contained
We put in all new tile so went down to the studs but the great thing about this unit is that you can just unscrew the shower head and screw this unit on no need to break the wall or do any other plumbing
