Highlights
Quality
Good is i was able to straighten the connector out enough to be able to plug it into the usb port, and it worked immediately.
I went into the advanced properties and enabled jumbo frames of 9014 bytes to improve performance.
So let's go ahead and get the bad out of the way first, the usb connector came in very bent and unable to be plugged in.
Plugging it in gets detected in dmesg, but the realtek 'r8152' driver that ships with this older kernel doesn't support this newer chip.
Price
Fantastic deal for the price and would also work very well to upgrade the speed of older machines with 100 mb or 1 gb nic's.
5 gbps rates to see any benefit over a 1 gbps adapter.
Competitiveness
The speed is great, it’s well-made, and price is better than similar adapters.
5gb speeds unlike 3 others i tried.
Native 1gbe was faster and even better i finally got 2gbs port aggregation working on the nas.

I’ve been using my mac mini as a backup target for my file server and it would routinely swamp the 1gbit network connection which meant the backup took longer than necessary

The file server has dual 10gbit rj45 nics so my initial plan was to plug this into the mini and connect it directly to the second nic on the file server giving each a static ip on a different subnet than the rest of my lan

Unfortunately the 10gbit nics don’t support 2

So my only word of caution is make sure whatever you’re plugging this into on the network side supports 2

If your switch doesn’t specify support it’s unlikely to have it

Some lenovo docks have an irritating bug with the built in ethernet connection that results in basically a broadcast storm and takes down all devices connected to that switch
