Pros
Very easy, convenient expansion. Easy to reach the sata plugs.
No documentation provided with the package, but the on-line schematic is accurate. Works fine with windows 11 and native drivers, no download. Very widely supported chipset in linux.
Close to onboard motherboard sata speeds. Got this to raid 0 6 cheap ssd's with mdadm as a temporary thing. To add a couple of drives in the system to use with unraid.
Comes with only short mounting bracket. The sata cables are standard 18 i wish they were 20-24 as they are little tight in the mini atx tower.

For the money i decided to add a 6 port card as opposed to a 4 port card giving me a little room for expansion.

It also has the advantage of making it easier to reach the sata plugs when compared to the plugs on my mb, which are harder to reach.
I recommend this controller to anyone who is running truenas system to expand or replace their sata ports.
Buyer beware: the vast majority of cards you see here at all different prices use the older, less compatible, asmedia asm106x chipset.
There are also cards with chipsets from jm micron and marvell.

If you need a pcie sata expansion card and you might because current motherboards often come with only 4 sata ports you might also have a old dvd writer youd like to keep in action

There is nothing wrong with this chipset as long as you do not connect a dvd or cd player to it

The asmedia asm106x does not support atapi devices such as those and furthermore connecting one may crash your system and corrupt windows

I emphasize this because i bought one previous to this one and not one listing for the asm106x cards mentions it will not work with atapi devices
