Cables either work or they dont work

For instance in my setup the cable comes from the preamp which resides to the right of my tv but the tv hdmi outlet is on the left side of the television facing left

A 90° adaptor makes this process much easier but obviously there are two possible configurations of such an adaptor and only one will work for any given situation
