Pros & Cons
Pros
D2 is a very hard stainless (it's actually semi-stainless) which means it holds an edge pretty well with a rockwell hardness on the c scale of 60ish. The g10 scales are perfect, the recurve is perfectly refined. D2 blade requires more attention than a... Read More
Both of these knives are very deserving for holding top praise for large folders in my collection. As another reviewer said, this is the trademark knife in which all knives should be judged by. This is the finest folder i have ever held.
I am a police officer, use of force instructor and harbormaster who uses a knife daily. It is an excellently crafted folding knife. Clip placement is great for accessibility, without giving too much of a snag factor.
The axis lock is better than the military's liner lock. It rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The axis lock is the best feature on the knife for sure very secure and trustworthy.
The bevel is straight and the edge is sharp. Steel is durable and has yet to be sharpened. Used it to cut everything from oranges to shaving off many paper gaskets.
Cons
The open is quite smooth and it does lock well, but the spring of the axis prevents a smooth close. After the second cleaning, there were spots of rust along the blade at the cutting edge and the back. Still trying to correspond with benchmade.
Highlights
Quality
Knife is high quality and overall is meeting expectations.
Benchmade makes good knives and i own several of them as well.
The knife opens smooth as silk, and the locking mechanism provides no play at all once opened, in any direction.
It is extremely rugged and not for the faint of heart like some sugar coated plastic knives.
Price
This is a classic at an unbeatable price.
For under $130, this knife is excellent.
Honorable mention goes to the buck cstar t, kershaw tremor ($30), and venerable ontario rat 1 folder ($30).
), and it may very well be overpriced.
Shipping
So anyway, the thing arrived and instantly became my favorite folding knife.
The knife arrived on time, and was all i expected in a benchmade product.
It is a day later than i was told and it wasn't a life or death situation so i'm not mad, but i did pay extra money for the shi... Read More
Shipped in a timely manner and a beefy blade to carry.
Packaging/appearance
They must have had some old stock, because i received one in perfect condition, brand new in the box.
My knife came with package opened and fingerprints on blade but aside from that knife was immaculate.
It gets looks --- i've used one and kept the others boxed all these years.
Competitiveness
Besides this solid, i dont have a spyderco military to compare, but i would say that this is as far as urban edc can go.
This is the only knife i've got which rivals the sypderco military in fit, finish, function and quality.
So, i like the clip, lock and blade shape better than the mili, and this knife is smaller so it can be edc'd a touch better tha... Read More
