Pros & Cons
Pros
This definitely seems to have solved my issues. Has been working flawlessly 24/7 without a problem. Functionally, it works exactly as expected for an unmanaged switch.
The binadat switch is great, nice and compact. Looks to be durable and well made. Solid, sturdy and a bit hot in operation.
The 2. It's a little like a step back in time, but the switch does function at 2.
Highlights

Build quality is solid, with a hefty metal housing and a reasonably large heatsink on the controller.

So what do you get with the binardat 5 port 2.
Price
At $99 (with 10% off coupon, at the time of this review), the price is hard to beat.
Packaging/appearance
I ended up attaching silicone feet to the bottom, to allow for air circulation and to protect my table from the switch's high temperatures.
Competitiveness
5gbps capable nics, and transfers directly between them with this switch are definitely better than the 1gbps switch they used to share.
And while it's not cheap, per se, it's considerably less expensive than many competing 2.
The link drops/reconnects randomly, and swapping to another cat6 cable or forcing a link speed doesn't help.
As far as i can tell, it only has a 1-year warranty; hopefully i won't have to use it.
