This memoir includes many phases of thomass life from her fascination with wildlife as a young girl through her childrearing years in far flung and sometimes dangerous locations to her writing career which continues today but for me the book really took off in chapter four where she wrote about her experiences as a collegeage woman in the kalahari desert living among the bushmen about whom very little was known at the time

The start of the book put me off with the author stating pretty clearly that she could not accept christianity
