Ive fiddled around over the years with many different kinds of snap caps to help store my guns with trigger springs released and would warn anyone away from the plastic varieties as they will degrade and get stuck over time

Although leaving aluminum against steel for extended periods is a little bit worrisome but these are anodized aluminum and many modern shotgun chambers and barrel breech extensions are chromed

Many older ones are not and if the snap cap anodizing becomes nicked scratched off in places it could react with the steel chamber and cause rustcorrosion spots

I cant evaluate if they actually help to prevent firing pin damage but the shotgun manufacturer recommends that they be used
