I replaced the push button with the pwm controller and it does the job very well.
It's normally a noisy fan but i can dial it down and get almost silent operation with the right amount of air flow.
So much better than a resistive solution since there's no power wasted as heat.

If you plan to mount this in a project box be aware that the threads on the pot are short
