The base is tough black plastic lined with a brushed aluminium surface

The whole blender when assembled weighs 4 kg which is a big weight for a blender this is also partly due to the jug being made from a very thick type of borosilicate glass

I did find on initial startup that it wouldnt work after further investigation i found that the lid has to be rotated to engage a plastic peg into the handle

Its great to have a safety feature like this but the plastic peg on the lid looks a little weak

If someone using this was not aware of the peg it could easily be broken by pulling off the lid this would then render the blender unusable

It would be better to have a a clamp on the top of the jug so that the lid cannot be lifted off without turning it to disengage the safety peg
