I ordered this bag with some hesitation because though the description mentioned a shoe compartment it did not offer any dimensions

If the shoe pocket expanded the size of the bag the size and profile of the bag would get pretty unwieldily in my opinion

Doing it this way means the backpack profile stays the same if you account for the space usage inside
