Pros & Cons
Pros
Much better than the belkin adapter for less money. Good to keep one in your gadget bag for when you need to get wired. Built well, relatively sturdy, and a pretty good value for the money.
This is everything i did, and i am having fine luck with this adapter so far. Very pleased. Serves my needs well.
Ookla's internet speedtest says i'm downloading between 206 and 207mbps. Network benchmarks show full gigabit. Throughput is good especially for backups to a san or time capsule where you need to schlep a ton of data.
Cons
Adapter is too small to work on macos. Requires constant jiggling to get an internet connection. When using wifi the speed drops to 150-200mb.
Highlights
Quality
Works as expected and much more affordable than the official options with the little apple logo on them.
I have a macbook pro so don't have a traditional ethernet port - this usb to ethernet adapter works great!
They sell products they surely know are incompatible with the m1, saying they are, in fact, compatible with the m1.
Being that the performance is the same, i am going to stick with the aluminum asix model because of its physical construction.
Competitiveness
Like every amazonbasics product i have purchase, this usb-c to cat5 cable works perfectly and is reasonably priced.
I purchased this to replace a failing competing brand.
Just tried on my macbook air 2018 to see if it wil work.
Paired this with an amazonbasics cat7 cable (anything below cat6 won't get you gigabit speeds).
