Pros & Cons
Pros
Bought the 8 channel nv4108-hs 4k nvr and 5 4k cameras with an amcrest 8 port poe switch for my home security system. The good:ip nvr really cleans up the physical install with a single ethernet cable. The the video is much smoother and the lag times ... Read More
Cons
This is possibly one of the worst products i've ever puchased. Looks like they found the cheapest thing they could and slapped their name on it.
After first recycle of power, no video from dvr. I feel like i really blew it to invest in amcrest for the nvr and cameras and having spent soooooo many hours trying to get this thing functional.
Using a chinese-made plug-in for a web browser is a security risk. The web interface is horribly confusing and the user manual is of little help. The app is not very good and the software is awful.
Recording and playback is jerky. When i contacted support they suggest reducing fps rates to 10. It also has less options than the camera, like not being able to create certificates for authenticated https sessions.
While that's not uncommon after several failed attempts at passwords. You need to insert the screws from the bottom because they don't clear the case otherwise.

Competitiveness
I'll continue to buy amcrest products and to recommend to my friends and family.
I was first given this nv4108-hs as a birthday present to replace an aging lorex nvr that had started to act up.
As they fail, i will be replacing my cameras with amcrest cameras, if for no other reason than for consistency in the system.
Motion detection does not work with a non-amcrest onvif compliant camera with the latest firmware update.

The cell phone and pc apps all worked just fine that way and while the nvr would recognize that there was a camera at that address it would not connect
