Pros & Cons
Pros
Ampcom rj45/11/12 ethernet/phone cable tester is a decent, inexpensive basic test tool to have if you do more than just connect a cable modem to a router with a few feet of cable. Used it to check out my ethernet cable for any shorts, wire breakage or... Read More
The ampcom network cable tester comes with a nice pouch/case to carry it in. Comes in a handy pouch for safe keeping of both units. I love that it clips together, and although it feels loose, it does seem to take a decent amount of force to unclip the... Read More
The build is adequate though i was aware to be gentle on the connectors. Cables sometimes fit snugly in the connector. The battery fit is really snug.
Cable testers like this are huge time-savers when troubleshooting networks. Not as quick as a proper tone generator and probe (fox and hound), but it can be used in a pinch.
Cons
It is difficult to insert and remove the cables. The switch feels really plasticy, and it's kinda finicky to get into the middle on position.
Highlights
Quality
Great little tool to test patch cables, net wires and phone wires.
Easy to operate, easy to read, and handy to have when you are a networking tech (or just like to diy).
If the connection isn't made, it doesn't light up; if it's switched the lights are opposite on the "main" and "remote" parts.
All made out of plastic, bright green leds for notifications.
Price
Great value for this tester for the price of it.
Giving it four stars as it still worked fine, and the price is great.
I would say that this is an inexpensive and basic cable tester .
Even with it's faults, considering the price, i give it 5 stars.
Packaging/appearance
It comes in a nice carrying bag with a key chain attachment that you can clip on your belt.
The tester comes with a nice pouch/case to carry it in.
Competitiveness
The bag is a nice addition for the same price as many identical testers!
Other connectors just slide in and out; there must be slight differences in brands of plugs.
The "local" and "remote" ends both have indicators, which is nice - i've seen significantly more expensive testers that didn't ... Read More
