The metal was a little oily when it came out of the packaging but better to be oily than rusty.

I dont know if this applies to regular cat6 ive only used cat5e and cat6a but the first thing you notice when crimping cat6a cord is how much more difficult it is to separate and line the wires up because of the extra insulating dividers inside the cable housing

Now those dividers are why cat6 can achieve higher speeds and frankly why you really should use it if only for future proofing at this point but it means a stiffer learning curve
