The onboard usb works well with mac os x sierra. I recommend using this one instead (as did amx3d customer support) lights flashing in cute patterns, that sort of thing.

Im leaving a good review because other people have had similar issue with even adafruit lilypads so im not sure the problem is limited to this particular board
