This device is both humane and effective. The only drawback is that it doesn't cover a real wide area. Even with my sprinklers hitting this, the repellent still works.

I just installed this towards the front part of my garden and at night this will not only flash lights but make a noise that they apparently dont like

On my camera i was able to watch one of the strays that tears up my garden start to walk up my yard but as soon as the lights flash it ran off

I tried the odor cat repellents which sort of worked but turned out to be very expensive and burdensome to have to keep reapplying every few days
