Yes you have to install the filter but frankly it pops right in and doesnt tend to fall out between uses so its not a big deal

Ive even used this bottle to refill other bottles which does require some finesse but compared to using the unfiltered water in our area or traveling with enough water to cover all of us for a day in florida heat thats not even a complaint

Not a problem most of the time but while in meetings or class i have to drink very gently otherwise it sounds like a dogs squeak toy

A pitcher is heavy when it is completely full which can also be an issue
