Pros & Cons
Pros
A quick non spoiler review then a full review with spoilers below. This is as close to dune in world and character building as i’ve read. There should be at least two more books in the series.

Cons
Ok, hadrian lost valka, bhu-hu. Some 650 pages more of this wallowing in self pity is not my choice of spending time. Seems to have learned nothing from his tribulations except cowardice.
Highlights
Quality
The quality and storytelling of these has been on an exponential upwards trajectory and ashes continues this trend.
There are still some good scenes and the prose soars as usual and i just like spending time with the characters.
Ashes of man is much more in line with the rest of the sun eater series when it comes to hating and beating down its characters.
Spoiler reviewyou have been warnedfirst thing to talk about is the relationship with the emperor.
