Have removed hoses with flathead screwdrivers for years. You have an adjuster on the clamp to have it ratchet a certain distance. It is worth it to buy the pliers because then you can work with the clic * and are not tempted to using the worm gear *.

There is no function to this work bench ornament. Customer service is garbage as well. Would not recommend this item.

The tool did not open the hose clamp as far as vise grips or regular pliers. Its jaws are angled at 45 degrees toward each other and therefore pinch the * at only one location along the tabs at a location determined by the depth of the jaws.

The jaw mechanism is not particularly robust. Need finer tooth to give better locking ability. The way the pinchers are oriented makes it nearly useless for deep engine work.
