Pros

Quality of this drive is solid with a robust albeit plastic casing and an aesthetically striking design. I have it stood vertically and it looks nice enough whilst not taking up too much space.

Vlc free works great with dvds and cd. Cyberlink powerdvd 18 (payable - depending on you knowledge) or above recommend for play blu-ray. Please keep in mind i already subscribe to cyberlink software that includes power dvd. This just reads / writes di... Read More

"super for bd-r discs of different variety. This drive is slower at ripping dvds but can rip my blu rays as well so an ok trade off. Can easily recommend if high quality & function in a usb disc playback system is required.

Cons

Vlc can't decrypt blu-rays to play them. Installation disk doesn't even come with a blu ray player so you cant play blu ray disks at all unless you shell out another £30-70 quid.

None of this is explained on the packaging or instructions. Hardly a thoughtful or flexible green solution. Also - it's pretty noisy for something of this price.

It's the first time i bought an asus and been buying disc drives for years, i've paid more for better brands and got less performance wise.
