Pros & Cons
Pros
It does its job. It works exceptionally. Not a fan of the enclosure, but works well. I have two asus gaming laptops and the 5 year old laptop works and runs faster overall then the 2 year old one.
Nero platinum is a full-size dvd burner that works with windows and osx out of the box. While it is on the big side the performance it gives makes it worth it. I plan to make a dedicated rpi burning station using this drive and a rpi 4 cm and set this... Read More
Using as backup for data. It reads and writes blu-ray discs.
Cons
Drive consistently disconnects from computer. Only able to reconnect drive by computer restart or disconnecting cables and reconnecting. The eject button is hard to see as it looks like part of the case. It has constant read errors, even on the old bl... Read More
Customer support is even worse. You fill out a checklist of information (half of which is not even pertinent to your problem) before you can even get support. Only reason i won't give it a 1 is because it did eventually work on my employer's pc. It is... Read More
When it works, it's fairly flawless. After three months this thing is toast. It runs hot, smells the electronic smoke-like smell of an overwhelmed unit. This tells me that this machine is weak; not powerful as it boasts.
Highlights
Quality
I have used almost 300 times since i bought it and it has a 100% success rate and is still going strong.
I've used it to successfully burn a 25 gb and a 100 gb verbatim (so yeah, only 2 disks so far), no issues so far.
It reads every disc i put into it even the double-sided ones (reads both sides after flipping it over).
Really a shame pc's have completely rejected physical media from a system-side.
Competitiveness
So i have bought several other less expensive external cd,dvd, blueray drives in the past and had many issues with them.
Via itunes i tested this against an lg bp50nb40 slim.
