Netgear nighthawk x6 ac 3200 r8000 (downstairs) (upstairs) has 5ghz wifi capability. Ghz and 5ghz speeds are as good as or better than the techkey or my laptop's wifi (when it was working) low profile is a plus. Good range, no drops.

I purchased a refurbished asus wireless adapter for my usb port, it works like new. Easy install of online driver from asus site. Comes with a minicd for installation.

Cons

What was initially advertised as an upwards of 200mbps download utterly plummeted to a mere 1mbps. Mbps (tx & rx), but only if i'm within maybe 10 feet of the router.

It takes forever to connect when i first start-up my laptop (sometimes 30-60 minutes) or when i disconnect my vpn software (the latter is more of a vpn software issue, i believe) it randomly drops my connection to the router (ssid), and will not autom... Read More

I've purchased a new hp desktop that came with a wi-fi adapter that only works if your are close to the internet modem.

4 ghz versus 5 ghz which i’m thinking is a driver or configuration issue still maxing out bandwidth.

Furthermore, the asus device was one-third the size of my old linksys wifi adapter.

I think (but cannot confirm) that it will be more reliable than other options.
