Pros & Cons
Pros
I have these paired with a5+ and sound amazing. My setup is in my office connected to a dac to my a5+. Then into the s8. I have audioengine a5 hooked to a very expensive martin logan 12inch sub as my computer speakers.
This sub is beautiful like my martin logan and hits hard for an 8inch. This unit sounds more accurate and punchy than the more expensive 10 inch sub. The sound out of this sub is great and it completes by audioengine trio of a2+ speakers and d1 dac. I... Read More
The base is very crisp and clean, its powerful, but you can easily tame it down when necessary. The sound so rich after connecting the subwoofer and an external soundcard. Good to have onboard settings for x-over and fade.
The bass is clearly felt and not muddied in any way. If you are into todays music, the s8 is an essential to get that kick and bass dominant. It produces excellent rock such as zep, floyd and steely dan for example.
No computer music library feeding a benchmark dac and this satellite/ subwoofer ensemble. I listen to several genres and the s8 handled edm, hip hop, country, and alternative impressively well.
Highlights
Quality
It's a little heavy for its size but the sound quality is solid.
The build quality is near perfect, there's no lose parts, and the knobs feel smooth with good resistance to it.
I had a problem with the crossover knob after 2 years of ownership.
I will try to post a video to prove the quality of this, i'm sure it won't do it justice.
Shipping
I paid $17 shipping to send it back to them, but bfd.
Packaging/appearance
These speakers are easy to set up and bang right out of the box.
While those speakers have decent low-end, the s8 fills in the hole the a5s are unable to produce.
Competitiveness
I am using this subwoofer with a pair of hd6 audioengine wireless speakers.
I already own audioengine a2+ and i am completely happy with my speaker setup.
Original subwoofer stopped working within 6-months of minor use.
Before purchasing, i was also on the fence with this sub, because spending $400 8-inch sub was quite steep.

But i also didnt want a ten or 12inch sub under my desk even if it was quite spacious

Upon arrival i pulled it out neatly boxed and in a soft microfiber or a type cloth

If your sub is far from your speakers more than 10 feet then i would recommend playing with the phase
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
Long story short the phase prevents the wavelengths from canceling each other as the sound isnt starting from the same place

Unless you want it to and it will do that just as well
