Pros & Cons
Pros
It's definitely an improvement, whether it's $200 worth of improvement is hard to say. Some are simply better produced than others. The highs are better defined and clearer. As for the quality, it's harder to explain.
This replaces my dragonfly red that failed. I use it inline with my ipad going to a klipsch 2. See my pic, apple camera adapter.
Extremely portable. Very versatile and easy to use. I wonder how the dragonfly red and cobalt would sound like. My main cans are focal elegia.
The musicality is dramatically improved overall. The music feels fuller and rounder. The separation of instruments and sound stage is about the same as the oppo.
Most/all music today is digital and the ability to process a digital stream is critical to providing decent music reproduction.
Cons
It is fragile, so much so that i can't recommend anyone take it with them.
It's not an amp, it's a dac. The volume issue is not detectable with my old sennheiser hd430 headphones. This dac/amp is extremely loud compared to the v1.

So for the price of the dragonfly red, the audio problem is solved.
So this is the sweet spot; for the price of lunch at trio, a really decent sounding dac that i don't get tired of.
And for 1/10th the price, although money is not the object here.

My dad is 83 and we did many ab comparisons with straight 44k and even these dragonfly’s are better than oem apple dacs.
I then tried the chord qutest, and found it to be surprisingly inferior to the red, lacking in detail and harmonics.
There is at least one other company that advertises their usb product with 24 / three hundred something.

The only dacs that ive ever heard actually sound better than this are the chords which have annoying batteries that dont want to stay charged and some mcintosh dacpreamps designed by gordon rankin and michael goodman that cost as much as a nice used car
