With lower gauge wire, you increase the length of the cable run you can get away with before audio quality drops.
Measuring the cable the gauge can be confirmed, i use it to power a pioneer sub, cable works great, just the right size.
The bad: the wires are thin and cutting the insulation results in cutting many of the wires using a wiring tool.
This was true 10 gauge speaker cable; thick but supple; almost too thick to go inside of the spring loaded speaker ports on my speakers.

This is a great deal, would use for any sub up to 500 rms.

Other 10ga wiring has been easier to use

I will always default to 10 gauge wire simply because this application is built around pushing a lot of power into a low impedance system which is your speaker

Plus my cable runs tend to be fairly long since im wiring up a home theater and the amp is usually a fair distance away from the speakers
