Finally got fed up and bought one of these plugged the device into the tv with the headphone plugged into the other end of the device and the mic cable plugged directly into the dictaphone still the interference was gone

All of my computer equipment is plugged into an uninterruptible power supply ups and the headphone output of the nuc was practically unusable due to interference

Using this isolator removed the interference completely with no degrading of sound quality at all

When using my phone or mp3 player for music in any of my cars with the usb lead plugged in for charging i got terrible whining sounds plugged this inline and now the whining has gone completely
