Pros & Cons
Pros
For hiking or skiing these are pretty awesome. The plastic has a good feel (doesn't feel cheap or like it will snap; rather, it feels like it'll bend if stressed) these are bargain priced quality units.
These come programmed with ham channels. Unless you hold a fcc license, this product is * for you to use. Re-programming the radios for the legal frs frequencies in the usa is not a difficult task. Free software named chirp can be used to do it.
Only time it gets choppy is between one car to the next. Similar performance around the neighborhood and campground. Great little radios for our short range on campus use.
One charge suffices for the entire day. The charger is a usb type charger (5v, provided) the radios are charged through micro usb sockets where the cable connectors are plugged into. They are rechargeable.
Decent audio, usbx2 charger is convenient. Sound is very clear, easy to use, and the battery lasts.
Cons
Didn't come with programming cable. Customer service is terrible. Buy something else. Didn't get customer service.
Highlights
Quality
Good sound quality and decent range as well.
Once programmed, these radios blew my mind with their quality.
The battery panel pops off with a spudger or flat screwdriver but isn't water-resistant at all, nor held on with screws.
The channel-select buttons are easy to press accidentally and get off-channel.
Price
For the price these radios work great.
Wow, nice set of radios for ~$20.
At about $10 a pop, if we lose one or break one no big deal.
Solid deal at less than $12 per radio.
Shipping
I entered gmrs 1-7 and 15-22 and left channel 16 blank.
Packaging/appearance
I led in the packed uhaul and could communicate clearly up to about 1 mile behind me through the full truck!
I've used chirp before for my ham radio, so i wasn't worried about having to do so, but upon opening them, i realized that they... Read More
Competitiveness
I like this much better than the baofengs bf-888s, smaller, cleaner, better clip, short and already part of the body antenna.
She will clip hers on and use the fbi-type, acoustic earpiece and i will usually carry a larger dual band handheld with an earp... Read More
What i did not like is that i own other radios of another brand and it only receive signal voices but couldn't talk back.
Compared to motorola radios purchased from walmart they are a much better buy.
