Pros

This works better than my 32 mile midlands, the midlands actually go 2. The antenna is not bad but not as good as a high gain ht antenna.

Easy to program just like the uv-5r. Very easy to program with chirp. Stronger on the transmit then my uv-82hp. W, swr=1. Note that the batteries for the uv 5 are different for these.

The electronics are a newer better generation. The battery has long-endurance. The only big downside is the lack of a suitable 12vdc external power connection.

Cons

Car cigarette lighter power supply was incorrectly labeled as a 12 volt supply, but put out the 10 volts needed. After some digging, turns out that they are not fcc part 95 compliant. Not very good.

Got this radio, more or less, to try these bands as inexpensively as possible.

It does have an fcc id number and the right packaging/owners manual.

Competitiveness

This works better than my "32 mile" midlands, the midlands actually go 2.

I am looking for a better antenna (naygoya 771).
