Overall heft or more solid feel. I would recommend this radio for someone on a tight budget.

Both the mic and speaker are as good or better than the uv-5r. And knobs are nice and clicky, speaker gets plenty loud as well. Volume is sufficient for all but the loudest of environments.

Recharging is easy via c. This larger batter being usb chargeable means a battery pack or solar cell can top this off easily in the field. Beefy in the hand and long-lasting battery.

Comparing this to an older model which i own, this is a very simple adaptation to the baofeng handheld radio series.

Other than some of the battery and software enhancements, this radio is similar to a radioddity gc-5.

One thing you'll notice, is this is uv-17r is physically bigger than it's older cousin.
