Pros & Cons
Pros
The uv-82 (8w) is a sleeper in the baofeng line and deserves more attention. The flashlight on the top is of a good quality, and there are two leds that show when the radio is receiving and transmitting. The antennas on both models are sma female rubb... Read More
Apart from the dual ptt, the two radios are functionally identical from a software and interface standpoint. Both radios program easily with chirp and a usb adapter. I believe the mic and speakers in both are roughly equivalent.
All *, including ptt, mon, and fm are rubberized on the uv-82. Uv-5r has a dedicated button for switching between channel and freq modes.
Power is 4.
Cons
Green plastic wrapping suggested it was high powered. It was not 8watt. Will be returning.
Highlights
Quality
Decent volume, very clear audio on transmit and receive and decent battery life.
All buttons, including ptt, mon, and fm are rubberized on the uv-82 and just feel right.
I was astounded by the high power of 8 watts this mighty little gadget beholds.
All in all, the baofeng uv-82 ham radio can make a radio nerd out of anyone.
Price
Was more than expected for the price!
Don’t let the price fool you, these radios are great for the amateur.
All and all i t was worth the money.

It's like david and goliath in terms of size to performance comparison.
