The top is close enough to flat and polished to be useful for hobby work. Finish shows some 250 grit lines that have been polished to about 3,000 grit. Looks well made, no flaws in workmanship.

The casting has some surface voids three small ones on the top edge about the size of grains of sand and one underneath the round horn that is about 1 by 3 mm

Sometimes it is useful to have this though the ends are considerably smaller than i might have imagined and really too small for working on rings which is why i bought it

It has holes in the base to screw it to a counter top which would probably make it more useful
