Pros & Cons
Pros
Everything from the sounds to the aesthetics are a highly detailed tribute to the original. Big fat sound, awesome filter, flexible routing, totally useable lfo.
The minimoog represents the pinnacle of subtractive analog synthesis for me. This pretty much mimics my original 1972 minimoog form but with additional keyboard features like arpeggiator and sequencer. It's a well-built mini-minimogue for a few hundre... Read More
The model d sits on the shelf with a keystep 32 mounted in the front rack. I’ve got this set up in a custom rack i bought on etsy.
Like any analog synth it needs a tuning adjustment every so often, but this is the charm of the instrument. The a440 tuning switch is a nice feature for tuning or detuning the three oscillators. Calibration is necessary anytime the device environment ... Read More
Cons
Korg, dsi and other companies have better low cost synths. The switches are so cheap that they come out of the new box finicky and scratchy. Don't waste your money.

Price
After a two weeks of playing with several patches, i can say this is a fabulous bargain.
Got my moog back, or at least an affordable clone.
For the price though this is more of an inconvenience.
Competitiveness
I am impressed enough that i am looking at acquiring additional behringer synthesizers such as the 2600 and the deepmind 12.
I owned the original minimoog model d in 1972 as well as a few other now “classic” synths like the arp 2600.
I have owned several vintage analog synths since college in the late 80's and early 90's when they were the cheapest options available.

However like all of the synths from that period they had their issues

In particular a few notable on the minimoog were tuning instability frequency shifting as you increased octaves and after time the internal keyboard wire contacts had to have frequent cleanings to what we called back then the ‘whoop” sound when playing the keyboard and the oscillators would occasionally make an odd whooping sound

Another point to mention i had at my disposal several minimoogs at the time in various studio environments and they were never identical in sound simply due to the nature of the manufacturing

Now add updated features like midi patch points dedicated lfo both low pass and added high pass filter option and if so desired you can use built in polychaining to use several model d’a make this synthesizer and extraordinary machine

One issue i have is getting to the limit of the main oscillator tuning range and either being just right for a440 or still a few cents flat

I believe there are some additional tuning adjustments that can be made by opening the box but it is a little disappointing that the main tuner cant quite always get the job done
