The firewire to thunderbolt adapter apple released only handled 6 pin firewire and my onyx is 9 pin.

My son suggested this item and it now only takes about 5 minutes to back -up my system after the initial back-up.

99 plus tax and was the only one apple carried.

They had one wire left and it was $34.

Felt pretty dorky/stupid buying this cord at around $20, just like you're probably feeling the same way reading reviews on cords.

Not for nothin' ;-) but the same thing costs about $40 at the apple store.

Is packaged within apple/mac packaging, but works just fine in gnu/linux!

Competitiveness

This definitely meets my needs for a much lower cost than many other "name" brand cables.

Grass valley recommends a belkin cable over other brands so i decided on the belkin even though a bit more expensive.

A bit off white compared to the mac 800 to thunderbolt adapter that it connects to.
