Pros & Cons
Pros
For the price, it's worth a couple of extra dollars and a little elbow grease to augment the magnetic base. The magnet base mount holds it securely with wind gust of 60 mph+.
The rg-174 coax is long enough to reach the bed. It gets better reception for stations that the stock antennas pick up. Outdoors, it pulls in the noaa weather frequencies better than stock antennas.
This antenna performs much better than the stock antennas that radios come with. It's kind of dinky but it works well.
Cons
Does not work whatsoever on 2 meter, swr is so high that i don't think you could put out so much as a call for help without frying your radio. Having an antenna that is dependable is important, it's not dependable on the highways/freeways/toll roads.
Small and inconspicuous. Problem is not present when stationary. Double sided tape is your only option for installing this antenna.
Highlights
Quality
The quality is amazing and so is the durability.
This little antenna really made my ham radio a lot more powerful, the magnets very strong it's perfect for the roof of your vehicle.
It's way too weak to stay on a vehicle roof at highway speeds.
The magnet on its base is crap but included comes a 3m adhesive sticker.
Price
The value of money was great and the performance was great.
I highly recommend it as a inexpensive get-by for handheld radios for those times when you're traveling down the road.
So, for less than $32, i have a great little antenna that i know will stay where i put it.
Not bad for a $10 antenna only wished the magnet was stronger.
Competitiveness
I tested the swr using the surecom sw-102 meter and found that i had to turn the adjustment as far as it will go to get the swr down to 1.
