There is a button specifically for smoothies another for a 60 second run and a third for a 90 second run

A couple of things i learned when i first started using it if your ingredient level is lower than the blade it will not mix effectively

Also when i first started using it there was a hot electrical smell but the manual states that it is the oiled gears and the smell will go away with use

Even after seeing our vitamix in action they were still blown away with the power and speed of this blendtec unit

The warranty is much shorter than a vitamix

While using the blendtec unit to clean itself placing a small amount of dish soap and water inside and blending on high they did not hold onto the top and proceeded to throw bubbles all over their apartment
