Pros

This blender is really a plug n play and come with a dvd for assistance. It's definitely a personal preference decision, but i recommend the vm. This thing is quite awesome.

The wildside jar has worked wonderfully! The smoothie setting is my favorite as it does all the work for me in a pre-set cycle. The smoothies seem more blended in the blendtec - smoother and more blended.

Cons

Black gunk on the base keeps getting worse. Just disappointing. Way over rated and over sold as to its capabilities.

The manual will only operate for 50 seconds, then the unit shuts off. It takes 30 minutes to an hour to open up a warranty claim. What good is a warranty if it only gives you a discount on a new (and probably still defective) product?

It blends up a storm, but there are several concerns i had from day 1. It blends just like a $24 cheapo blender with a bigger motor. If you try to blend something like pumpkin the design allows an air pocket to form and it just spins without blending.... Read More

The quality of the blend on smoothies is incredible.

The biggest problem i have is with the lid.

Thought i would give the blendtec a try.

Packaging/appearance

I would recommend the designer with the pictures of the smoothy, ice cream, soup, etc.

Competitiveness

Did a ton of research and this compares with a vitamix.

From past experience, the results you get with a blendtec outweigh any cons, and you will use it on a regular basis.

It's a great blender but these high-end blenders just are about 3x the cost of what i think they should be.

With minimal---and i mean minimal---reading of the manual, i was able to make a smoothy and clean the jar afterward.
