Of flour or sugar but also the same strong glass used in bodum coffee presses the band part way down makes it easy to pick up the jar no slipping in wet hands the band stays in place larger jars will hold a 5pound bag of flour or sugar smaller jars are perfect for a half pound of almonds or grits airtight seal keeps contents fresh the plastic lid is seethrough so you can store them close together in a pullout drawer and still see the contents from above they are also attractive for leaving out on the counterthey can be washed in the dishwasher but you need to take off the flexible band first which will discolor if run through the dishwasher and also remove the seal from the lid just rinse those off

Only four stars because it would be nice if the glass were of a slightly thicker gauge

If there is any oil left in the bottom i just put the cap back on once its cooled down
