Self Tapping/Self Drilling
Customers have mixed opinions regarding the self-tapping/self-drilling ability of the BOLT DROPPER Deck Screws. While some report easy driving after drilling a pilot hole and quick work with impact drivers, others find them prone to stripping and bending during installation. Some customers suggest using a Robertson (square) head for better control and durability. However, a significant number of users have experienced issues with stripped heads and broken screws, advising against using these screws for deck building.
Shear Resistance
Customers have reported mixed experiences with the shear resistance of these stainless steel deck screws. While some found them to be inadequate for heavy-duty applications, others noted they were suitable for softer materials. However, a significant number of users experienced issues with the screws bending or breaking under pressure.
Shallow Star Drive Slot
Customers have mixed opinions regarding the shallow star drive slot of these stainless steel deck screws. While some found the square head to be effective for handling high torque and preventing camming, others experienced issues with the shallow slot leading to rounding of the drive head and stripping of the driver.
Highlights
Quality
Wow, nice hardware, even just nails and screws, really make a difference in durability and esthetics.
The stainless alloy used gave outstanding performance.
Back it out slowly or use vise grips to back it out, start fresh with a new screw and driver bit.
They're screws, sturdy hard not brittle, not soft with lead like some awful 2lb strippers .
Price
Living at the beach requires stainless screws for decks and other wood projects and these are great quality for a great price.
Pre-drillgo buy a 6 inch cheap drill bit, harbor freight has them for $2.
While a bit costly they are the long lasting solution for that issue.
Competitiveness
Square holes, be sure that's what you want instead of a phillips or star.
If you want greater quantities, go to a large canadian hardware store.
I think the shank is slightly thinner than most #8 screws.
