Pros

The 1617 has half again as much power as my ol' pc. Great machine and lighter than the 3 hp plus routers. Wish it would have come with dust hoods.

Table top height adjustment works well from above and the micrometer adjust knob operates easily under table. The finish on the router bases is good, and they fit the router nice and snug, but not too snug where you struggle getting them together.

Nicely packaged. Amazingly so. Everything still fits snugly and and be packed away in seconds.

Cons

The * web site has mis-leading info about where to obtain service. What a shame.

Motor looks like someone took a grinder to it. If you don't want to use a pipe wrench to turn it you have to constantly clean and polish the motor assy with fine sandpaper. This far more serious flaw makes it difficult to use for high end woodworking.... Read More

It takes two wrenches to tighten/release the collet. The depth stop on the plung base wobbles. There is enough wobble that if you are making multiple passes the router bit depth will change enough to show.

The unit has a major issue with the on/off switch. This is a pain but at least it is fixable. My complaint falls directly in line with all others i’ve read from users who are unhappy with the operation of this tool.

Dust collection is ok, but not as good as the colt. There is also no light inside the housing so its very hard to see when plunge routing. Woodworking creates dust, doesn't it? These are very sensitive to dust if mounted in a router table.

This router is amazing, great value for your money especially if you buy it when it goes on sale.

If you are looking for a affordable router that does everything you can imagine a router can do then this is it!

In this day and age any router kit should really ship with dust extraction accessories, which the bosch 1617 does not.

Packaging/appearance

The collect was in a separate tiny bag that got lodged inside that slit and could not be reached.

Parts are missing, the box and amazon said it comes with a 1/4 collet and there was none.

Competitiveness

And because i think that the bosch router guide is far and away the best router guide on the market, especially for the cost.

Apparently porter cable is no longer making routers, so i read several reviews and the bosch was ranked high on most lists.
