It does however obstruct view of the blade while cutting and may need to be removed when attempting to cut close to a line freehand

The only dust that escapes the vacuum is the small amount that falls out the underside of the cut workpiece which would be impossible to capture without something under the workpiece to catch it

The nub that protrudes from the tube contacts the motor case

The other issue is the dust collector detaches pretty easily if you vacuum hose gets stuck
